The Equity Symposium is an opportunity to learn from each other with a focus on racial equity. Our colleagues from Highline and beyond will present on a range of topics to challenge us to deepen our capacity for equity.

All staff will attend two sessions:

  • Additionally, staff will select an Elective session

Too often, improvement initiatives seek to “fix” the behaviors of students and families, rather than placing blame for unsuccessful outcomes on educational systems that persistently fail to position students of color as knowledgeable, competent, and skilled. In this session, we’ll unpack this problem and consider ways each of us, regardless of our role or job, can disrupt deficit-based assumptions about students and their capabilities, shift practices, and push for system-wide change.
